Beffroi de Doullens

France > Hauts-de-France > Somme > 80600 > Doullens > Rue du Bourg

Typical of its rusticated architecture, alternating brick and stone, the belfry of Doullens has been classified as a historic monument since 1966 and was recognized by UNESCO in 2005.

Recognized by UNESCO in 2005 and classified in 1966 in the Inventory of Historical Monuments, this belfry was called "Tour de Beauval" until the 14th century. Seat of the echevinage, this symbol of communal liberties is typical in the North of France and in Belgium. Following numerous invasions, the belfry was destroyed and rebuilt several times; its last restoration dates from 1613. This elegant "brick and stone" building with "bossage" has been visited by illustrious people such as Richelieu and the Dauphin Louis XIV.
