Le Défi du Traict

Discover sailing on old rigs (Bantry & Ness yawls, sail and oar boats). Sailing for half a day or a day in a family atmosphere. The program of outings is available on our website. To sail : you must be a member and register with the skipper in charge of the trip. The sailing program can be consulted on the website (see the calendar on the home page). You can also contact the secretary ([email protected]) who will send it to you. The boat is located at the Merquel anchorage in Mesquer. Sailing takes place all year round in the Bay of Mesquer, usually on Sundays. They are open to all interested people over 14 years old, whether or not they are new to the marine environment. You just need to be a member of the association. History : The Association "Le Défi du Traict" was created in September 1997 to respond to the competition to build a 1796 yawl called "de Bantry" launched by the magazine Chasse Marée. According to the founders' wish, this construction took place within the framework of a program of integration of young people in difficulty. The assembly of the first elements of the axial frame of the boat was carried out on November 15, 1999 at the l'Otarie yard in Arzal. Construction continued at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique in St Nazaire and was completed on 30 June 2000. The partnership of the Caisse d'Epargne de St Nazaire allowed the Yole Le Traict to create the event in Brest by a magnificent christening, a launching of the Belem's boissoires on July 13th 2000. Since then, the Yole sails with its members all year round in Mesquer and takes part in maritime events. The Association is also always involved in social action thanks to its partnership with the IPFA rehabilitation organisation. Sailing trips are organized with these young people in difficulty. Events : Participation in the gatherings of old riggings (Week of the Gulf, Douarnenez, etc. ...) and international regattas (Défi jeunes marins, Atlantic Challenge). Organisation of the Fête de la Mer (every two years in September): gathering of old riggings at the Port of Kercabellec.
