A little history: The site was used in the 1960s to produce fill, and was then partially transformed into a leisure area in the 1970s, notably for fishing and canoeing. In the 1980s, the area was nicknamed "Arthon-Plage" by the locals
The Grandes Perrières quarry is a former limestone extraction site. It is no longer used today, and nature is slowly reclaiming its rights. A 22-hectare site with an exceptional natural heritage, it is made up of wooded areas, lakes, ponds, lawns, meadows and fallow land. The site boasts an interesting diversity of flora and fauna, with a good number of heritage species.
