Porcé beach, family beach located in the western districts of Saint-Nazaire, near the university & the Coulée Verte

Very popular with families, Porcé beach is one of five beaches in Nazaire that are supervised during the summer season. It's also a great starting point for walks along the Chemin des Douaniers or in the Bois de Porcé. Supervision is provided by qualified lifeguards in July and August, from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends, depending on the tides. Dogs (except guide dogs), horses and all other animals are prohibited on Saint-Nazaire's supervised beaches from June 15 to September 15. (Authorized the rest of the year). According to a 1734 confession, the origin of the name comes from the former port of Ségurand. Other sources link the name to the Breton porzh, meaning beach, or to the Latin Portus Caesaris (Source: L'abécédaire des rues de Saint-Nazaire, Université inter-âges)
