Anjou, stronghold of the Plantagenets, is a very ancient land of pilgrims passing through Compostela.
Linking the Mont Saint-Michel to Santiago de Compostela, the Plantagenêts route is part of the Compostela Trails, classified as "Europe's first cultural route" and crosses Anjou from north-west to south-east over 200 km. The current route, which was recognised in 2004 between Pouancé and Le Puy-Notre-Dame, links Mont Saint-Michel and the Tours route (at the church of Saint-Pierre d'Aulnay). The Compostela Way offers a multitude of atmospheres: Misengrain valley, Mayenne valley, Angers, city of art and history on the banks of the river Maine, Brissac and its highest castle in France, the troglodytes of the plain around Doué-la-Fontaine, the charming village of Puy-Notre-Dame with its collegiate church overlooking the vineyards...
