In Ancenis-Saint-Géréon, the étang du Gotha is a good place for fishing. The surroundings have been laid out with boules pitches. Ideal for spending a day with family or friends.
In the 10th century, a monastery existed in the village of Saint-Géréon, on the site of the quarry. It was destroyed in the year 1000 and became a Benedictine priory around 1100. The granite pillars of the entrance porch and the tower door in the wall between the church and the bakery remain. This priory was destroyed well after the Revolution and the quarry was not opened until much later. Today, the Gotha pond is open for fishing. The area around the pond has been fitted out with bowling greens, making it possible to spend a day with family and friends.
