ABBAYE DE CLAIRMONT

France > Centre-Val de Loire > Loiret > 45160 > Olivet > Olivet #### Route des Fays

Clairmont Abbey in Olivet was founded in the 12th century. It preserves a large part of its original buildings, classified as Historical Monuments.

Founded in 1152 by Bernard de Clairvaux in a landscape of woods and ponds, the Abbey of Clairmont or Clermont is a very pure example of a Cistercian settlement. From the 12th to the 15th century, Clairmont Abbey was the burial place of the Lords of Laval. It retains many of its original buildings, which are listed as Historic Monuments: the impressively large abbey church, the storeroom and refectory for the lay brothers, and the porter's house. Clairmont Abbey will be closed to visitors from November 6, 2023, and will reopen on Saturday March 30, 2024 at 2pm. It is possible to visit the abbey, outside the opening period, for a minimum group of 4 people, by calling 06 08 72 48 63.
