France > Pays de la Loire > Maine-et-Loire > 49123 > Ingrandes-Le Fresne sur Loire
The city Ingrandes-le Fresne was built on a pudding mound which forces the Loire to a curve of 100°. Since prehistoric times, it has been a privileged place where the sailor can quietly wait for the rotation of the wind before continuing on his way It is also a historical place where the famous stone of Brittany was laid in the 9th century to separate Brittany from the Frankish kingdom. This country has lived to the rhythm of history and passages and still bears the traces of it today. This geographically privileged place was a river trade crossroads; many important fairs were held there. The small town will experience the upheavals of the French Revolution, leading to the disappearance of the border between Brittany and France. Since 1996, the town, half Angevin, half Brittany, has been classified as a heritage protection zone (ZPPAUP) and the inhabitants are turning towards their Loire identity.
