MAISON JULIEN GRACQ

Julien Gracq, a writer and geographer born in Saint-Florent-le-Vieil, bequeathed his property to the commune so that it could become a place of residence for his writing. Since 2012, the Maison Julien Gracq has welcomed about fifty writers, artists, and researchers in residence or for creative stays. The Maison Julien Gracq, located on the banks of the Loire River, provides inspiration to the various residents of the house. It is composed of the writer's family home, gardens and a medieval building called the "Grenier à sel", open for guided tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 3pm. Literary and artistic events in Pays de la Loire as well as writing and reading workshops are held there regularly. In the "Grenier à sel", there is also an exhibition room, a beautiful library containing the collection of the writer Julien Gracq and a room of cards evoking the life and work of the author, open for free visits from Wednesday to Saturday.
