MAISON DE LA RIVIÈRE

Go upstream and discover the history of inland waterways and navigation in the Maine basin, from the ancient barges to the modern barges. Installed in the courtyard of the old flour mill, the Maison de la Rivière presents the activity which reigned on the rivers of the Maine basin, from the Middle Ages to our days. While the roads were often impassable, the waterway offered the barges and other vessels the means to transport heavy loads. The millers did not look kindly on these "Proud Arms" which wasted the water necessary for the mill wheels. Relive the daily life of the bargemen, especially during the passage of the "portes marinières".
