This castle is exceptional by its site dominating the Valley of the Vègre and by its architecture because it is the result of the fusion of buildings of the XVth century, XVIth century and the XVIIth century

To describe the château of Martigné, no description is more charming than the one made by Didier Auvray and Alain Betin in "Châteaux et manoirs de la Sarthe, Editions" (Cénomane, Le Mans, 1988). "There are houses that blend so well into the landscape that they seem to have always been part of it (...) Inscribed in this peaceful setting appears the castle, whose plan seems so complex at first glance. Two parallel buildings, with their high gables: the first, built in the 15th century, was doubled by a second one a century later. Traces of their antiquity can be seen here and there, archways and loopholes, dilapidated or crawling stones cut. The red-haired corner chains stand out in their dark hue on the light-coloured plaster of the walls. These twin dwellings were, in order to achieve symmetry, framed by square pavilions at each end. The castle is set in a park several hundred years old, and lives in its former self-sufficiency with a vegetable garden, orchards...
