CIRCUIT DE RANDONNEE PÉDESTRE EN FORÊT DE CHAMBIERS - DURTAL

France > Pays de la Loire > Maine-et-Loire > 49430 > Durtal

The Chambiers forest hiking trail in Durtal takes you along forest paths shaded by the foliage of hundred-year-old beech, hornbeam and oak trees in the heart of one of Anjou's most sensitive natural areas.

A flat, family-friendly trail, mainly on forest paths. Suitable for for occasional walkers. When the walk becomes educational? Identify the different plants, track down footprints, decipher tracks, recognize the animals you come across along the way? The many preserved and authentic treasures that abound in this nature reserve are revealed to hikers through educational panels set up all along the nature trail. As the seasons go by, the trail changes its face as the many different plants blossom. With patience and discretion, it's not unusual to catch a glimpse of the mammals and birds that inhabit the forest. You are in the heart of the forest, opposite the Chambiers ponds, managed by the Maine-et-Loire Federation for Fishing and Protection of the Aquatic Environment. Concerned to preserve the tranquility of the site while enhancing the value of these ponds, which are listed as a Sensitive Natural Area, the Federation has specially developed the larger of the two (6.76 hectares) to open it up to black-bass sport fishing, with compulsory release of the fish. While the smaller of the Chambiers ponds (0.5 hectares) is destined to become a food reserve, the larger one has been classified by the Prefecture as second category for fish farming. No toilets in the forest. Picnic tables at the start of the circuit, at the entrance to the forest. All shops, restaurants, camping, caravan parks and public transport in Durtal town center, approx. 4 km away.
