DOLMEN DES ERVES

France > Pays de la Loire > Mayenne > 53270 > Sainte-Suzanne-et-Chammes > Route d'Assé le Bérenger "Les Erves"

The Dolmen des Erves is the oldest monument built by Man in Mayenne and is also one of the most famous monuments in the department.

This megalithic burial site is related to the area of the Angevin dolmens, except for a few details: the cover of the chamber is composed of two slabs instead of a single one and the pillars are widely spaced from each other. Human bones of fourteen individuals have been discovered, proof of the collective character of the Megalithic tombs. On this occasion, a deer antler spike used to dig the pillar foundations was discovered, as well as a decorated ceramic that may have been a perfume burner. Free access.
