BASTIDE DE VALENCE SUR BAÏSE

France > Occitanie > Gers > 32310 > Valence-sur-Baïse > VILLAGE DE VALENCE-SUR-BAISE

The Bastide of Valence sur Baïse is a typical example of the movement to build new towns during the 13th and 14th centuries in the South West of France and particularly in the Gers in Gascony.

In the south of Condom, in the heart of Ténarèze, discover the 13th century bastide of Valence-Sur-Baïse built on a hillside. The main square of the village has three covered sides, except for the north-west side where the 14th century church is located. Inside, you can admire an 18th century altarpiece consecrated to the Glory of St John the Baptist. Built on a phreatic table, the village has many wells, several of which decorate the square. Take the ‘Clés des champs’ with your family and stroll the footpaths, explore between 1 and 15 sites for a sensitive and playful discovery of our region. Through different exploration tools (travel notebook, bag, discovery trunk…), open your eyes, shape your senses, prick up your ears and experience the various Gascony landscapes that can be seen, heard, tasted and felt... All the tools will be handed out in the different Tourist Offices of the Ténarèze region. (Rental of the explorer’s bag 5€).
