A flanc de coteau - Sentier des troglodytes

France > Centre-Val de Loire > Loir-et-Cher > 41800 > Troo

Wander along the paths and the many staircases to discover the troglodytic dwellings that make up the charm of this ancient fortified village. A hike to be programmed without hesitation during an unusual weekend in the Loir valley.

Built on the hillside on three levels, Trôo dominates the Loir valley. This troglodytic town owes all its originality to this very special layout: terraces connected by stairs, a network of cellars and galleries dug into the tufa rock... But the interest also lies in the very rich history of this village and the many witnesses still visible today. A defensive site from the Gallo-Roman period, Trôo has preserved the remains of its gates and ramparts. From the Saint Gabriel staircase, the most famous of the 8 staircases that Trôo has, to the collegiate church of Saint-Martin, founded in 1049 by Geoffroy Martel, via the hillock that offers a breathtaking view over the entire Loir valley, the "A flan de coteau" circuit promises an unforgettable walk!
