Circuit de Saint Laumer

France > Centre-Val de Loire > Loir-et-Cher > 41150 > Monteaux > Monteaux

On the tourist route of the vineyards (A.O.C. Touraine-Mesland), on the borders of the Cisse valley and the Loire valley, you will find this 7 kms hiking trail starting from the church of Monteaux.

This route offers magnificent panoramas of the Loire, (the Loire Valley has been classified as a "cultural landscape" on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000), shaped by centuries of interaction between the river, the land it irrigates and the people who have settled there. Monteaux preserves a 16th century castle and its watermill (the Gièvres mill, listed M.H.), several period houses, as well as a 13th century neo-Romanesque church. The communal territory is home to century-old vineyards, the slopes of which were cleared by the monks of the Abbey of Marmoutier around the 10th century, who introduced the Gamay grape variety. To the north of the circuit, you can't miss the old water tower and its atypical "Hennebique" style architecture, dating from the 1930s.
