Naïsam Jalal and Rythms of Resistance- Souillac en Jazz

2nd concert Naïssam Jalal (Académie Charles Cros 2017 and Victoire du Jazz 2019) is a French-Syrian woman who began playing the transverse flute at the age of 6, encouraged by her parents of Syrian origin. After obtaining her certificate of completion of musical studies (CFEM) and having discovered a real passion for musical improvisation, she emancipated herself from the conservatory and began a tour in Mali. At the age of 19, she left France to study the ney, a traditional oriental flute, at the Grand Institute of Arab Music in Damascus. Her training continued for three years in Cairo and then for six years between Paris and Beirut, where she met and collaborated with great masters. Her multiple influences oscillate between traditional oriental music, jazz, hip-hop and rap through improvisation. In 2011, Naïssam Jalal, flutist and composer, founded her quintet Rhythms of Resistance, an ensemble that reflects her own image and the convergence of the influences of four virtuoso musicians of different nationalities: the French-Moroccan saxophonist and percussionist Mehdi Chaïb, the double bassist Damien Varaillon, the German cellist Karsten Hochapfel, and now the much sought-after drummer Arnaud Dolmen (winner of the Jazz Prize in 2022) Giving voice to resistance, an eternally new, healthy and salutary idea that refuses to compromise, is the soul of Rhythms of Resistance. 3 sparkling albums followed, all acclaimed. The quintet Rhythms of Resistance has reached a high level of maturity and musical cohesion. Naïssam Jalal's compositions are subtle and subtle, with written and improvisational passages and traditional music intertwining and resurfacing with the essential contribution of the quintet members.
