An imposing building surmounted by a thin octagonal bell tower, unusual in the region. Simple at first glance, this building hides a more complex history than it appears.
After its reconstruction following the Hundred Years' War, the church of Malesherbes was dedicated to Saint-Martin in 1540. It houses many treasures such as the cenotaph of Monsieur de Malesherbes, a white marble bust sculpted by Dumont and offered by Louis XVIII to the inhabitants of Malesherbes in 1822; the entombment of Christ, a statuary group of eight life-size figures commissioned in 1495 from Adrien Wincart for the Chapel of the Castle of Malesherbes; the education of the Virgin, a copy of the original work by Jean-Baptiste Jouvenet painted in 1700. This oil on canvas represents the Virgin Mary as a child in an intimate family scene.
