USINE ELEVATOIRE

The lift factory, whose high brick chimney can be seen from afar, is no longer in use. For more than 80 years, from 1911 to 1993, it fulfilled a very important mission: its powerful machines pumped water into the outer harbour in order to ensure that there was always sufficient water in the harbour basins (the level naturally drops with evaporation and lock movements). Since January 2021, the Saint-Nazaire lifting factory has been listed as a Historic Monument.
