CALVAIRE MEGALITHIQUE

France > Pays de la Loire > Loire-Atlantique > 44110 > Louisfert > rue Abbé Cotteux

Erected from 1871 to 1892, the megalithic calvary of Louisfert is the work of Abbot Jacques Cotteux.

It is not a simple calvary, but a "megalithic calvary" whose purpose is to remove, according to its author, the "vestiges of the bloody cults of the past". It was erected on a "holy hill" made up of most of the menhirs and dolmens of the region. Blessed since 1872, this calvary was progressively enriched with numerous statues, then with a way of the cross in 1892.
