In Thiérache, it is frequent to discover a washhouse near a fortified church. At the Portes de la Thiérache, the Washhouse Route allows you to discover 26 buildings, in 19 communes: Rozoy-sur-Serre, Chéry-lès-Rozoy, Sainte-Geneviève, Vincy-Reuil-et-Magny, Montloué, Montcornet, Chaourse, Vigneux-Hocquet, Dagny-Lambercy, Morgny en Thiérache, Archon, Parfondeval, Dohis, Brunehamel, Les Autels, Résigny, Grandrieux, Rouvroy-sur-Serre and Raillimont. Information panels, installed on the spot, will accompany your discovery. There are open-air washhouses and covered washhouses. Some washhouses, located in the heart of the village, are easily accessible. Others, more isolated, will require a diligent search. You will discover different types of washhouses: the hall washhouse as in Parfondeval, the vaulted washhouse unique in Thiérache in Chaourse; the closed washhouse; and the watering place washhouse whose specificity lies in its basin placed at the height of women to facilitate the work.
