A service of the Departmental Council in charge of the development of public reading in rural communities, the Departmental Media Library supports the development of the network of media libraries in the Jura. History In the 1980's, the municipal theatre was to be demolished and the project was born to separate public reading from the old collection and to transfer the library to the building of the old theatre. The transfer of the contemporary collection took place between 1989 and 1990 in a specially designed link, while evoking the memory of the theatre by installing original sets. In 2006, with the evolution of the demands, the project of creation of a multimedia collection (DVD and CD) is launched to make the library evolve into a media library. The mezzanine is the ideal space to accommodate this new collection. The fitting out and the equipment were carried out in 2007 and 2008 as well as the computerization for a reopening on November 08, 2008. In 2019, the media library will join the Coeur du Jura network, with the media libraries of Arbois and Poligny. A cinema room is integrated into the whole. This room will be given a new name in 2021, called the Guigone de Salins cinema. There are three screenings per month organized by the Écran Mobile de Bourgogne Franche-Comté. Collections The media library offers 11,000 books, about 20 magazines, and 2 subscriptions to the local press (Le Progrès and La Voix du Jura), soon 3,000 DVDs, more than 1,500 music CDs, and about a hundred audio books, for adults and children. Some special collections, such as Lire Facile, the "Dys" books, adapted for dyslexic people, but also a collection concerning Burgundy Franche-Comté. The documentaries, DVDs, comics and audio books are regularly enriched thanks to the supply of the Jura Departmental Media Library and the shuttles between the 25 libraries and media libraries of the Jura via Jumel39.fr. The media library updates its collections by weeding out ageing documents and regularly acquiring new documents. The library also accepts donations of books if they are in good condition and in large format. Contact us for more information. In addition to this public reading collection, the library also has an old and patrimonial collection of 23000 documents.
