Le tunnel d'Urbès

France > Grand Est > Haut-Rhin > 68121 > Urbès > 17 rue de la scierie

The tunnel of Urbès is a high place of memory of the High Vosges of Alsace. The original project was daring: to link two valleys by "piercing" the Vosges. For economic reasons, it was abandoned in 1935. The Second World War broke out shortly afterwards. The unfinished tunnel was a good hiding place and was invested in 1943 by Germany for its arms factories. It soon became one of the 70 concentration camps annexed to the Natzwiller-Struthof camp Today you can discover the entrance of the tunnel and its history through a discovery trail.
