Place du Maréchal Foch

By the rue du Maréchal Joffre, you reach the place du Maréchal Foch where stands the beautiful fountain dedicated in 1534 by the inhabitants to the bishop of Strasbourg Guillaume de Honstein. The basin is a modern restoration. On the shaft surmounted by the Virgin is the inscription: "Sub rev. k. Domino Wilhelmo ex comitibus de Honsteyn, episcopo Argentinensi, Alsaciae landgravio, pio renovatore urbis Rubeacensis and candido pacis culture optimo principe S.P.Q.R.'. me statuit et scaturiri effecit anno MDXXXIV" (under the Reverend and beloved Lord William, Count of Honstein, Bishop of Strasbourg, Landgrave of Alsace, pious restorer of the city of Rouffach, candid promoter of peace, the best of the princes, the magistrate and the people of Rouffach erected me and made me rise in the year 1534).
