An interpretation center unique in Alsace: the remains of a 13th-century fortified refuge that encompassed the church and its ecclesiastical enclosure, "Kirchhof". Guided tour of the site. In the Middle Ages, to protect themselves during feudal wars, farmers fortified the churchyard or "Kirchhof", a sacred place, a place of peace and sanctuary. They built gadens, or refuge-housing cells. Among the many fortified cemeteries still visible in Alsace, Dossenheim sur Zinsel is exceptional in that it is the only one to preserve these refuge-housing cells.
