Sentier de découverte des Monts de Sery

France > Grand Est > Ardennes > 08270 > Sery >

The ancients tell us that the giant Gargantua, passing through the region, shook his boots full of earth here: two large clods fell from it... and formed the Sery mountains! On each of these mounds, discover an ancient Roman camp and an exceptional flora. This site is an archaeological witness of the Roman occupation in the region. The Roman road Reims-Charleville passed at the foot of the Monts de Sery. It would probably have a more ancient past, dating back to the Celtic period, where it is thought to have served as a place of solar worship. It also appears at the centre of ancient religious rites and at the heart of many local legends. This place is also called "Fairy Mountain", because its summit was the place of choice for witches, goblins and spirits of all kinds. Its isolation and its morphology make it the dominant point of the Porcien, even if it is not the highest point. The botanical trail will give you all the information you need about the local fauna and flora. Parking at the bottom of the hill, 2 and 3.5 km trails. You will have a view of more than 30 kilometers in the round.
