Le Moulin à Couleurs

France > Grand Est > Ardennes > 08130 > Écordal > 4, Hameau Bonne Fontaine

Located in the southern Ardennes, Le Moulin à Couleurs is the last remaining colorant factory in France. The pigments are used in small quantities by painters, or in 25 kg bags by restorers. The major paint brands have also adopted them to supply art professionals. Since 1866, the company has responded to a wide variety of demands, adapting to the needs and constraints of its customers. The activity consists of extracting earth or ochre, essentially from the Ardennes, drying or burning it, then grinding it as finely as possible to obtain a 100% natural pigment that can be marketed in both the artistic and heritage restoration fields.Moulin à Couleurs pigments have been used to restore Notre Dame de Paris, Place Ducale and the Château de Sedan, as well as by painters, paint manufacturers and colored pencil manufacturers. The factory is open for pigment sales Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm, except Fridays at 4:30 pm.
