Chapelle de Saint-Valery "dite des marins"

France > Hauts-de-France > Somme > 80230 > Saint-Valery-sur-Somme > Rue de la Chapelle

In neo-gothic style, respecting the tradition of white stone and flint checkerboard walls, the Saint Valéry chapel also has as a particularity its bell tower surmounted by a gull.

Located on one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Bay, the chapel, of great antiquity (of Romanesque architecture) was built on the very tomb of the apostle of Vimeu. It was replaced in 1878 by a new chapel, under the aegis of the Abbot Caron, Historical parish priest of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme from 1872 to 1893, of a neo-gothic style, respecting the tradition of checkerboard walls, with an alternation of limestone and cut flint. At the foot of the building is the miraculous fountain, known as the Fountain of Fidelity. It was carefully refurbished and completely restored in 2013.
