This modern and popular opera house wanted by François Mitterrand is the work of Carlos Ott, an Uruguayan-Canadian architect. Together with the Palais Garnier, it forms a single institution: the Opéra National de Paris. Inaugurated in 1989, its architecture is sober and bright. The building is also renowned for housing the largest opera house in Europe (2,700 seats). Operas, classical music concerts, contemporary ballets... The venue has an eclectic programme and offers guided tours.
