Its silhouette and its dome stand out on the Sainte-Geneviève mountain, the historic hill of the Latin Quarter. This ancient church dedicated to the patron saint of Paris has housed in its crypt, since the French Revolution, a necropolis of great figures of the republic - including Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, Zola, Pierre and Marie Curie and Simone Veil. On its pediment is inscribed "To great men the grateful fatherland".
