Le Jardin des Plantes - Muséum national d'histoire naturelle

France > Île-de-France > Paris > 75007 > Paris > Place Valhubert

Commissioned by King Louis XIII in 1635, the former royal garden of medicinal plants is one of the very first public parks in the capital. With a surface area of 19 hectares, it is made up of 11 gardens (the Alpine Garden, the Perspective Squares, etc.) and serves as a backdrop for the historic buildings of the Museum of Natural History: the Grande Galerie de l'Évolution, the Menagerie, the Grandes Serres, etc. At once a botanical garden, a zoological garden and a research centre, the site boasts a marvellous collection of trees, plants and flowers.
