Bibliothèque Nationale de France - Site François Mitterrand

France > Île-de-France > Paris > 75007 > Paris > Quai François Mauriac

The "BnF", the largest library in France, is the work of the French architect Dominique Perrault. Opened to the public in 1996, it is distinguished by its modernity and aesthetics, a subtle combination of wood, glass and steel. The site consists of large angular towers symbolizing four open books and a vast central esplanade enclosing a forest garden, overlooked by reading rooms. Inside, the visitor discovers the two spectacular globes (celestial and terrestrial) of Louis XIV and accesses the temporary exhibitions.
