The Lake of Peïroou is an artificial lake located in the Alpilles in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, direction Baux-de-Provence. The name "Peïroou" comes from the Provençal language and refers to the natural cavities of the rock due to erosion. Its initial use was to supply water to the town of Glanum There are two ways to access it: from Avenue Van Gogh, take Avenue Antoine de la Salle and continue. Another way to access the lake is from the Route des Baux, leaving the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, you will find stairs on your right and you will come across a beautiful physical hike where the GR6 passes. Access to the lake is subject to summer restrictions due to the risk of fire, so please always ask if access is permitted or not. Please note: the access to the lake is closed to traffic in summer. When possible, you can go to the lake and start a hike on the GR6. It is also possible to fish when the lake allows it. To do so, you need to get a special fishing card for the Lake of Peïroou, the national fishing card does not work there. You can buy it at the Tourist Office of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Possibility to buy it for a day, a week or a month. Attention: fishing is closed from June 1st to September 30th.
