Discover the village of Meyrargues in 45 minutes, thanks to this heritage walk.
Located in the north-east of the department, overlooking the Durance Valley between the Luberon and Sainte Victoire massifs, this charming village of 3,650 souls welcomes you. Nestled in the foothills of the vast forest of Ligourés, a classified site "Grand Site Concors-Sainte Victoire", you can discover the last remains of the Roman aqueduct of Traconnade. Built in the 2nd century, the canal embraces the town on the hillside, spanning the Grand Vallat stream. A real source of coolness in summer, this small stream crosses the village in the shade of large plane trees. In the past, the poet and horseman Joseph d'Arbaud, a native of the village (1874-1950) liked to come and water his horse here. In the labyrinth of narrow streets in the old town centre, below the medieval castle, there is a pretty little square dedicated to a righteous man, the Abbé Singerlé. The tour we are proposing today will allow you to discover all these treasures. The highlight of this tour is the orientation table at the top of the St Claude hill, which offers a wonderful panoramic view of the nearby Alps.
