The Japanese garden named "Un air de Kumamoto" is located in the west of the city, in the Saint-Mitre park. It is located around the Noh theater.
The Japanese garden known as "Un Air de Kumamoto" is in the west of the town, in Saint-Mitre Park. It was created around the Noh theatre. Symbolising the partnership between the towns of Aix-en-Provence and Kumamoto in Japan, the garden is a beautiful green gem. In the centre of the garden is a pond. This is a Mediterranean-style garden based on the rules of a Japanese garden. The rocks come from the region, and the trees and plants are from the Mediterranean varieties found on the Sainte-Victoire mountain. Visitors can see the essential elements of a Japanese garden, including a pond, waterfall and lantern in a garden that has made an impact throughout the Aix region. The trees planted here (cherry trees, ginkgos, maple trees) mark the changing seasons and provide shade. The black pines give structure to the new garden, as well as a real Japanese spirit. The garden resulted from a partnership between the Kumamoto gardeners association and Aix-en-Provence gardeners. Interested visitors will find information about the garden on the panels at the garden entrance. The garden opening times are the same as for Saint-Mitre Park.
