Eglise Saint Laurent

France > Hauts-de-France > Oise > 60240 > Monneville > Rue de la Chapelle

The village originates from a seigniory already mentioned in the 11th century. It was based on a manor house, which still exists, although it was rebuilt later. In 1289, Jean de Monneville, the lord at the time - a priest - received permission from the archbishop of Rouen to found a chapel. Dedicated to Saint Laurent, it remained until 1824. For a long time, Monneville was only a hamlet of Marquemont. Its situation on the road from Beauvais to Pontoise will give it a constant development, contrary to Marquemont which, difficult of access, counted only about fifteen inhabited houses in the middle of the 19th century. In 1860, the main town of the commune was logically transferred to Monneville. The church, which has no architectural value, was at the beginning a simple meeting room erected as an emergency chapel in 1854. An important donation from Dr. Detros allowed the construction of the crosses in 1861. Shortly thereafter, the generosity of the Countess of La Myre, a descendant of Louis Robert who had acquired the seigneury of Monneville at the beginning of the 18th century, allowed for the completion of the church with the construction of the choir and the neo-gothic porch bell tower. The final point will be marked in 1880 with the moving of the parish headquarters from Marquemont to Monneville. Dominique Vermand
