Monument de la 26e Yankee Division

France > Hauts-de-France > Aisne > 02000 > Braye-en-Laonnois > Route de Braye

This monument was erected in 2008 in front of the entrance to the Froidmont quarry, on the heights of the commune of Braye-en-Laonnois, in order to recall the presence of the 26th US Division (known as the "Yankee Division") from February to March 1918, which trained for combat there before moving on to the theaters of operations in Château-Thierry, but also in Argonne and Alsace. It also mentions the famous dog Stubby, the mascot of this division and the most decorated animal of the First World War, the only one to be promoted to sergeant and who was received by the President of the United States in person!
