Temple Mémorial

France > Hauts-de-France > Aisne > 02400 > Château-Thierry > Place de l'Hôtel de Ville

This Protestant temple was erected in 1924 by the American Reformed Church in memory of the Protestant soldiers who fell on French soil during the First World War. It was designed by the French architect Achille Chauquet and is particularly well decorated with an exceptional group of stained glass windows by David Burnand and the stained glass window "La Fayette nous voilà" celebrating Franco-American friendship and the landing of General Pershing's troops. Indeed, the Americans won the decisive battle at Bois de Belleau and participated in the liberation of Château-Thierry, the prelude to the ceasefire called by Corporal Pierre Sellier in La Capelle. The Bible was offered by Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt.
