France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57685 > Augny > Mairie de Augny
Between the 14th and 16th centuries, a climate of insecurity reigned on the banks of the Moselle and Seille rivers, due to numerous conflicts between the Republic of Metz and the dukedoms of Lorraine and Bar, which tried to take over this rich country. In the heart of ancient wine-producing villages clinging to the hillsides, the fortified churches that served as defensive works bear witness to the insecurity of the past. The church of Sillegny is an example: Built in the 15th century, it houses remarkable frescoes in perfect condition. This tour at the gates of Metz between the Moselle coast and the Seille valley is a clever mix of history, terroir and modernity.
