JARDIN DU PALAIS DU GOUVERNEMENT

The Government Palace, Place de la Carrière, was built by Emmanuel Héré in the 18th century, at the request of King Stanislas, to house the Intendant of France. This garden was desired by the Duke of Lorraine, Stanislas. It was intended for the Intendant of France, administrator of the Duchy during the reign of Stanislas. The army then took possession of the premises before this heritage was returned to the City of Nancy. Since 1983, the Government Palace has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 8800 m2 of the garden are planted with maple trees and two plane trees contemporary to Stanislas. These plane trees were bought and planted when the Palace was built, so they are over 250 years old. They were awarded the label of remarkable trees by the A.R.B.R.E.S. association in 2013 on the occasion of the first edition of Embranchements. The layout of the garden is harmonious, with a circular shape that naturally predisposes to calm and fullness. It is a haven of calm compared to the bustle of the neighbouring Pépinière Park. The garden gives direct access to Rue Jacquot and the former Gendarmerie barracks built in 1872 in an 18th century style. From now on, it will be possible to stroll from the Cordeliers to the garden of the Palais du Gouvernement and then to the Pépinière. Visitors will be able to enter via the Pépinière or via Rue Jacquot.
