FORET DE HAYE

France > Grand Est > Meurthe-et-Moselle > 54840 > Bois-de-Haye > FORET DE HAYE

The Forêt de Haye massif is located in Meurthe-et-Moselle, to the west of the Nancy conurbation. It is located on a vast limestone plateau hemmed in by the loop of the Moselle, which stretches west to Toul. On reaching Messein, the Moselle, coming from the Vosges, comes up against a limestone hill. It bypasses this limestone hillock by going westwards where it originally joined the Meuse at Pagny-sur-Meuse. A major geological event in the Quaternary period caused it to leave the Meuse watershed and curve eastward. The Moselle joins the Meurthe at Pompey. It is in this loop that the Haye plateau is located, which slopes gently from west to east, following the dip of the limestone layers, to fall into "cliffs" over the agglomeration of Nancy.
