ORGUES DE SAINT-MAXIMIN

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57100 > Thionville > 3 Place de l'Eglise

When you open the doors of Saint-Maximin church, you'd never imagine you'd discover an organ with a thousand stories behind it. Listed as a Monument Historique, it is the result of several creations. The first organ, commissioned for Thionville, appeared in the church as early as 1704. In 1791, at the height of the French Revolution, the parish acquired the organ from Saint-Clément church in Metz! It was love at first sight! In rococo style, the organ stands out from the general sobriety of the church. Its pastel colors are reminiscent of the luxurious objects found in grand châteaux. Its little cherubs and surrounding vegetation transport us back to the 18th century, a time of philosophical and humanist effervescence.
