CHÂTEAU LOBSTEIN

France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88270 > Ville-sur-Illon > Route de Mirecourt

Mansion built in 1904 for Jacques Lobstein, founder of the Grande Brasserie et Malterie Vosgienne. Designed by F. Clasquin, the style of ornamentation is influenced by Art Nouveau (sculptures and ironwork). The motifs are borrowed from the plants that are essential to the manufacture of beer: barley sheaves, hop cones. The turret's stained glass windows, created by Charles Champigneulle, depict a flight of storks and a little Alsatian girl in traditional costume picking hops, themes recalling the origins of the owner who came to settle in the Vosges after the 1870 war. It is located near the Brewery Museum, in the village. Text by Colette Thivet - Cultural Association History and Heritage of Ville-sur-Illon. Only visit of the exterior.
