Originally the church of Sainte Geneviève is a Romanesque construction of the 11th century whose nave was composed of 3 bays with engaged columns supporting a stone vault. This nave ended with a choir in the cul de four which is the only one that remains today. In 1622 a chapel of the rosary was erected to the east of the choir; of important dimension, it occupied 2 bays of the nave. In the 18th century, the Romanesque nave and the chapel of the Rosary were destroyed to make way for a square nave covered with a flat ceiling. This reconstruction was ordered in 1769 by the chapter of Metz who commissioned an architect from Metz, Georges Bourgeois, to draw up the plans. The village of Saint Geneviève occupies a high peak of the Grand Couronné and the violent fighting that took place in the region during the last 2 World Wars has heavily damaged the church. In addition to the restorations carried out in the Romanesque choir, part of the nave and the bell tower were rebuilt with the restitution of the reinforced concrete framework after the destruction of 1944.
