In October 2021, Biscuiterie Lefèvre-Lemoine's Macaron de Nancy received the "coup de c?ur" of Gault et Millau and its prestigious jury: Marc Haeberlin, chef of the Auberge de l'Ill in Illhauesern, Nicolas Stamm, chef of the Fourchette des Ducs in Obernai, Jean Kuentz, chef of the Maison Rouge in Colmar, and Marc Esquerré, director of the Gault et Millau guides. Opposite the Thiers train station and the L'Excelsior Art Nouveau brasserie, the Au Duché de Lorraine boutique, designed by Georges Lefèvre and his wife in 1933, has retained a rare and unique charm typical of Lorraine, which you can savour seated in the tea room. Its furnishings have been protected as historic monuments since 2022. It is run by Nancy's oldest confectionery family: the Lefèvre-Lemoine. Since 1840, this dynasty has been behind Nancy's greatest sweet specialties, thanks to its founder Antoine Lefèvre-Denise, whose brother invented LU cookies in Nantes. A must-have Nancy speciality, traditional almond macaroons are sold by the dozen and made according to the skills inherited from the pastry chefs and confectioners of the 18th and 17th centuries. Fine tablets of baked sugar scented with bergamot citrus fruit, Bergamottes de Nancy are presented in metal tins that Jean-Pierre Jeunet captured on film in 2001's Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain. Great-grandfather Louis Lefèvre-Denise registered the brand in 1898. The Maison is also a must for Saint-Nicolas celebrations on December 6, so dear to the hearts of Lorraine's inhabitants, with its specialties, for which a trademark was registered in 1884.
