MUSEE DU CINEMA ET DE LA PHOTOGRAPHIE

France > Grand Est > Meurthe-et-Moselle > 54210 > Saint-Nicolas-de-Port > 10 Rue Georges REMY

Travel back in time and discover the marvellous story of the origins of image animation, photography, cinema and video. Guided tours and various activities accompany visitors on their journey of discovery. A gallery of photographic exhibits completes the tour in a space of almost 1000 m2 (free admission). The museum is one of the most important in France in its field. Both playful and educational, it welcomes visitors as they discover step-by-step the evolution of know-how, from images in prehistoric caves, shadow theater, the magic lantern, the invention of photography and the cinematograph, to the all-digital revolution. French genius is present at every stage, from Emile Raynaud, Nicéphore Niepce, Jules Marey, the Lumières brothers, Georges Méliès, the Pathé brothers, Léon Gaumont and many other inventors and discoverers from all over the world, often unknown to the general public. Did you know? In 1914, 80% of the world's cinema was French. Customized tours are available every day of the week for groups (associations, schools of all ages, with complementary activities such as educational workshops, children?s birthday ceremonies, etc.). The museum, run by a non-profit association, is housed in the last building of the former barracks of the 4° Bataillon de Chasseurs à Pieds, graciously made available by the town of Saint-Nicolas-de-Port. Groups welcome daily by appointment (morning or afternoon)
