CATHÉDRALE SAINT-ÉTIENNE

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57000 > Metz > Place d'Armes

Built between 1220 and 1522, it is the result of the union of two separate churches. With its 42-metre high nave, it is one of the largest Gothic buildings in Europe. Its 6,500 square metres of stained glass windows have earned it the nickname "God's lantern". Created from the 13th to the 20th century by Hermann de Münster, Thiébault de Lixheim, Valentin Bousch, Jacques Villon and Marc Chagall, these masterpieces of fire and light constitute a veritable encyclopaedia of the art of glass. Guided tours offered by the Metz Tourist Office and the Cathedral Art Gallery.
