THERMES NAPOLEON

France > Grand Est > Vosges > 88370 > Plombières-les-Bains > Avenue des Etats-Unis

Napoleon 3 came very regularly to take the waters in Plombières to treat his rheumatism. Very quickly, the Emperor wished to have a building of his own size that could accommodate all the high dignitaries of France. For his project, he will call upon two architects, Charles Isabelle and Nicolas Gilot. They will create a magnificent showcase for the splendor of Napoleon 3 and the Second Empire. Inside the main hall we find an 18m high vault that majestically crowns the 65m long corridor. One finds oneself immersed in a cathedral made of cut stone and bathed in light. The great revolution of these thermal baths dating back to 1861 is that they have in the same place, the treatments, building in the center, and the accommodation, the two wings on either side. The whole of the Napoleon 3 thermal baths is registered as a historical monument since 2001. Currently open to thermalism, the curists still come to plombières to treat their rheumatism.
