CHAPELLE SAINT-ROCH

France > Grand Est > Moselle > 57970 > Kœnigsmacker

The Saint-Roch chapel already existed in 1221 under the patronage of Saint-Sébastien. It probably replaced a pagan sanctuary dedicated to a Gallo-Roman deity. When in 1221 the Benedictines of the Abbey of St. Matthias in Trier took possession of Koenigsmacker, they found a very small parish church and a chapel. This is the first mention of the Chapel of Saint Roch.
