This World War II memorial site is the last remnant of the barracks built in early 1945 in Saint-Rémy-aux-Bois. For nearly 10 years, they housed the inhabitants after the village was burned and bombed by the Germans. Like a living museum, the furniture and everyday objects of the time are in their original place, accompanied by photos and testimonies of this period in the history of the village in the 20th century. Much older is the church (1710) which was built with the stones of a castle that was completely destroyed. It has a tiered high altar, decorated with wooden statues by the same artist as those in the churches of Saint-Boingt and Saint-Germain. Nature lovers who stay in the brand new gîte created in an old farm by a young couple from the village will be able to recharge their batteries in the peaceful forest of Charmes, accessible on foot from the village.
